Day 7 - Tires, Banff and Jasper

Yesterday I woke up to what sounded like thunder.  Oh, the dread...I look out the window and it is clear as a bell with blue sky.  I don't know what I heard but I got up, showed and packed up Red Velvet for the ride to Blackfoot Motorsport to get her new tires.  I decided to go with the Heidenau knobby tires.  Hopefully I will get good traction and wear, plus they look cool.  I went to Tim Hortons while I waited on the Red Velvet service.  The place was packed, unlike Ohio.  I have yet to see one Starbucks coffee being drank by someone let alone one of their stores, refreshing how the Canadians drink coffee, not some fancy/smanchy sorta coffee.

I motored on to Banff which is where the 1988 Olympic Winter Games where held.  Very beautiful.

From there I rode through the ice fields on the way to Jasper. The scenery became even more spectacular and I stopped and hiked to a glacier that was amazing,
Along the way I saw mountain goats, bighorn sheep, caribou and this...
It was a 250lb black bear and it was about 40 feet from me.  It was happy eating small trees, just having a light dinner of greenery.  So I finally make to Jasper and have dinner and after finding out rooms are $250/night I camped out for $15, but had no running water.  Oh we'll it was a pleasant campsite and I met some nice people from Edmonton.

I did not realize how close to railroad tracks we were but I would guess 10-15 trains went by during the night.  I figured out in the morning it was dual railroad tracks for trains going In both directions.  Despite being loud I kind of like hearing them go by.  I woke up at 7am this morning and it was 49F.  I broke camp and loaded up Red Velvet for the ride to the Alaskan Highway and hopefully Dawson Creek tonight.  Have a pleasant day and weekend my friends.
