Day 1 - sleeping in Davenport Iowa

The first day of riding went fine after I got through West Jefferson, Ohio.  When I left this morning, my gas tank indicated I could ride 80 miles...I should have filled up before I left.  I ran out of gas on I70, right before the 142 exit.  I coasted up the exit and pulled over.  A few minutes later, I great guy on a Harley stopped and said he would get me gas.  About 20 minutes later, he returned and my bike "Red Velvet" fired up.  I proceeded to fill up in West Jefferson.  The rest of the day went fine, it was a bit hot but I motored on. Illinois is as boring as Indiana but at least in Ohio and Indiana have speed limits of 70, Illinois and Iowa is oppressed at 65.  I only saw two police officers all day.  I think my mileage for the day was 525 miles.  Crossing the great mighty Mississippi River was cool this evening. I finally found a hotel room after stopping four times...got the last one with a king size bed (perfect) and swam in the pool after taking my stuff to my room.  I'm hoping to make it to Fargo, North Dakota.
