The last two nights I "roughed it" sleeping at Quality Inns, swimming in their pools, eating the included breakfast and slept well. Tonight it changes...I am staying in the Mt. Rushmore Inn and it's a big difference...my two requirements were A/C and TV...yuck...I am sure I will be up early and on the road. It's a hole...oh well..I probably saved a few dollars...I just hope it does not have bed bugs! Today's ride was good...I like South Dakota...the roads are great and the speed limit is 75 mph...woohoo. A couple observations...first is there are some weird bird species that dart around the roads and come very close to me and Red Velvet. Kind of spooky, just like the movie The Birds. The second thing is the bugs are huge and they hurt bad when the hit you....they are big suckers..I think made of carbonfibre exoskeletons...or something...I was actually swerving to miss them. Maybe the birds were feasting on them? I went to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse...both are amazing but the amount of Indian artifacts, pictures, etc. at Crazy Horse was really cool, go there if you get the opportunity. I went to Wall Drug...because they advertised to me for 300+ miles with their road signs that made me chuckle. I had several cups of their advertised ice cold water...and it was just as advertised. The people watching there is as good as 4 acres of a Walmart. Tomorrow I am off to Montana...big sky country...and I am very much looking forward to it.
I miss Cathy, my kids and my dog Indy...he is feeling better (yea!). I don't miss work, but I do miss the people! A big shout out to Stephanie Karas who is backing me up at work and to the best manager who "let me" take off all this time, Lisa Wharton---two great ladies!
